Selangor's Minister Amirudin Shari Faces Questions Over Aide's Wealth and Influence
Selangor's Menteri Besar, Amirudin Shari, has been urged to address concerns regarding the unexplained wealth of one of his aides, who is also reportedly holding an unusual number of state-linked positions. This request was made through a dedicated WhatsApp chat group named 'MB Selangor', managed by an anonymous administrator known only as 'Madani'.
The chat group includes verified contacts of Amirudin, as well as Selangor assemblymen from both the government and opposition, political party leaders, and journalists. Madani's messages directly address Amirudin, demanding an honest and fair response.
Madani's allegations include the aide's rapid rise to millionaire status since Amirudin's tenure began, ownership of a RM3 million bungalow, and luxurious overseas vacations for the family. Beyond his senior post in the state administration, the aide is said to serve as a constituency coordinator and sit on the boards of a state-owned enterprise and a golf club. The aide is also reportedly on the cusp of joining the board of another Selangor state agency.
Madani questions Amirudin about the concentration of power in one individual, suggesting that it implies a lack of qualified alternatives within Selangor. The Menteri Besar has been asked to disclose the aide's monthly income and provide further clarification.
The conversation within the chat group also raises other allegations, such as the aide's involvement in securing 'development funds' from various contracts and benefiting from district projects. When contacted, the aide, whose identity is being withheld, declined to comment.
FMT has also sought comments from Amirudin regarding these matters.
